| GIORGOS THEOTOKAS (2005) – 100 years since his birth
2005 marked the 100th anniversary since the birth of the leading author Giorgos Theotokas. Participating in events to mark the anniversary, EKEBI organised events about the major Greek author and intellectual with the assistance of a committee of experts especially set up for the purpose of :
Dimitris Tziovas, Prof. of Modern Greek Literature at University of Birmingham, Dimitris Nollas, author – Chairman of the Board of Directors of EKEBI, Stavros Zoumboulakis, manager of Nea Estia magazine, Aris Marangopoulos, author, Nikos Alivizatos, University of Athens Professor, Maria ALexandraki, Chairman of the Association of Greek Librarians & Information Scientists and Angeliki Papanikolaou, National Book Centre of Greece special consultant.
Events A 2-day conference entitled Giorgos Theotokas: A free spirit roaming between literature and politics, at the Stoa tou vivliou book arcade. The conference was held on 7-8 October 205 in Athens attended by 25 experts from Greece and abroad. The conference was accompanied by other parallel events such as: An exhibition dedicated to the author presenting the works and biographical information about Giorgos Theotokas, his books, photographs, manuscripts and other archival material from the personal collection of his family, and a collection of drawings made by Theotokas himself. There was a screening of the Greek television programme Paraskinio relating to the timeless free spirit of Giorgos Theotokas and educational courses where held as part of school trips. The proceedings of the conference were published in a special issue of Nea Estia journal dedicated to Giorgos Theotokas.
“Giorgos Theotokas 2005 – 100 years from his birth” A 32-age book about the author written and edited by Dimitris Tziobas and designed by Stavros Koulas. It is a full introduction, useful both for anyone already familiar with the diverse work of Giorgos Theotokas and for those coming into contact with him for the first time. It includes a detailed timeline of his life, a full list of works, a selected bibliography with all major articles on his work published to date, an anthology of his literary work and is lavishly illustrated with paintings, documents, manuscripts, publications and photographs from the archives of Lily Alivizatou, Giorgos Theotokas’ sister.
Mobile Exhibition EKEBI created a mobile exhibition on the life and work of this author. The exhibition consisted of 18 panels with photographs, information about his life and works, front covers of his books, manuscripts and drawings by Giorgos Theotokas and was sent by EKEBI to schools all over of Greece as part of the Mobile Exhibitions scheme.
