Eugene Trivizas graduated in law and political and economic sciences from Athens University. He has a Master of Laws from University College London, and a doctorate in law from the LSE. He is a Senior Research Fellow at London University.
He teaches criminology and comparative criminal law at Reading Univrsity where he is Director of Criminal Justice Studies. He has also taught at Bramshill Police College, Central London Polytechnic and the LSE. From 1993 to 1998 he was visiting professor of criminology at Panteion University in Athens.
He has published articles on criminology and law in diverse journals such as the Lancet, the British Journal of Criminology and Annales internationales de criminologie.
Trivizas began writing as a child. He has written more than 100 books for children, one for adults, more than 20 plays and an opera libretto.
His work has won awards from the Union of Greek Writers, the Greek Children’s Book Circle and the Women’s Literary Association. He has won awards in Britain and the U.S including the Parents’ Choice Amazing Accomplishment Award, the Sheffield Children's Book Award Commendation, the Judson, the Massachusetts Children's Choice Award, and the Arizona Library Association Young Readers’ Award.
His play The Scarecrow’s Dream was performed in 1992 at the British Museum Theatre during the European Arts Festival. Later that year his play A Thousand and One Cats, translated by Z. Rudrinski, won the first prize in an international competition organised by the Polish Youth Arts Center.
In 1993 his The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig reached second place in the American bestseller list for picture books.
Books by Trivizas have been broadcast by the BBC, included in Greek and American school readers and translated into English, German, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Chinese and many other languages. The E.M. Andersen Library at the University of Minnesota organised a collection of all Trivizas’s literary works as well as studies of his work, manuscripts and other material to make up a special research archive. An exhibition of the collection’s first acquisitions took place at the university in May 2000, and Trivizas spoke on stereotypes of good and evil children’s literature.
