Dimitris Nollas was born in 1940 in Adriani, Drama. He studied law and sociology in Athens and Frankfurt but had to abandon his studies when his family’s business went bankrupt. From 1962 to 1975 he lived and worked in Western Europe. He later wrote and directed children’s programmes for radio and directed news programmes for state television (1975 to 1997). He has collaborated on film and television scripts with leading Greek directors and taught scriptwriting at Panteios University. His work has won numerous distinctions including the Greek State Short Story Award (1983), the Greek State Award for the Novel (1993), and the Diavazo Short Story Award (1996). His stories have been published in translation in several anthologies abroad.
