This large format book contains seventy-three paintings by Giannis Psychopedis, a leading contemporary Greek artist, and eighty-one poems by Kiki Dimoula, generally regarded as Greece’s foremost living poet. The poems, selected by the artist, span all of Dimoula’s previously published collections from Erebus (1956) to Greenhouse Grass (2005). The book also contains one previously unpublished poem, written especially for this poetical-visual “encounter”. The paintings constitute a form of inspired conversation between the painter and the poet. As Psychopedis writes in the prologue to the book: “…The flow of poetry and that of painting are like two insubordinate rivers that run in parallel, each with its own waters, its own sources, but which unite, however, in the earth’s depths, and emerge from a common opening… And the more genuine art and poetry are themselves, the more the one is able to comprehend the other and record the deeper emotional landscape, the common ground that unites them and where they flourish…”.
