Rhea Galanaki was born in Irakleio, Crete in 1947 and lives in Patras. She studied history and archaeology in Athens. She has published poems, short stories, essays and novels. In 1997 she won the Nikos Kazantzakis Award, and in 1999 she won the State Fiction Award for her novel Eleni or Nobody, which was short-listed for the European Aristeio Prize. Her book The Life of Ismail Ferik Pasha was the first Greek novel included in Unesco’s List of Representative Works (1994). Her book, An Almost Blue Hand, won the 2005 State Award for short stories.
