Sleuth Cornelius Crick and his dizzy but devoted assistant Martha the Firefly are called in to investigate when Ursula de Fluff’s ancestral tower is haunted by nasty noises in the night, ambulatory suits of armour and levitating objects. Worse still, a huge wolf is rumoured to roam the surrounding forest. Martha is unwilling to forgo their planned holiday on Easter Island for a trip to chilly rural Scotland until Crick suggests that the venture might be reported on television. In fact Hortensia Nosy, a pushy ferret who is a TV reporter, and Sneaky from Super Confusion channel, give them coverage, sometimes more than they want. Hatzopoulos has a gift for inventing characters - including Poison, an evil-smelling butler, Darius Arf, a Dalmation with a counter-tenor voice, and Sneezy McPo, a cat that suffers horribly from allergies. His intriguing tale is attractively illustrated by Despina Karapanou. For children of eight and over.
