Who stays at hotels in major tourist destinations out of season? The residents of Faidon Tambakakis’s Empty Hotels are migrants, travel agents, lonely women and writers. But there are also denizens of the night and the people on the margins of society, depicted in unpredictable situations and moments, surrounded by doubt and uncertainty.
In his latest book, Faidon Tambakakis enters into a game with writing from the great European tradition, from Stevenson to Conrad. The short stories in his collection are open-ended, granting readers the freedom to create and justify their own interpretation of events.
The writer often becomes involved in the fate of his own heroes, who direct advice or requests to him in one way or another.
