An adolescent girl caught up with drugs, a mother who sees her child being ruined without being able to save him, a married man who cannot travel as planned with his lover, a girl who is sexually abused, a father who turns savagely violent, and a twenty-year-old who sees her life ruined before it has even had a chance to begin are the characters that people Lena Kitsopoulou's short stories. The author depicts human relations without any ethical or social mask, beset by unforeseeable and insidious forces and subject to bloody clashes. Her harsh, almost inhuman fictional universe relies on realistic development of detail, meticulous description of place, as well as unexpected viewpoints. In narratives, which deliberately tell only part of the story Bats slowly reveals the grim drama of characters who may be far from ordinary but who never fail to be convincing.
