Dimitris Mingas was born in 1951 to a family from Messinia. He graduated from the Physics and Mathematics School of Athens University and works as a secondary school teacher. He lives in Thessaloniki.
His first collection of poems, You Embrace Humanity If You Touch the Sea, was published in 1995 by Entefktiriou and his short story collection Sleepers in 1999 by Polis. The latter book won Diavazo magazine’s prize for new fiction in 2000.
In 2003 Polis published his novel It Rarely Snows on the Islands, and Metaichmio brought out his short story collection Salonica…That’s All. Some of his stories have been translated into English, French and Chinese and published in journals abroad; and It Rarely Snows on the Islands has been translated into Italian.
