Fotini Stefanidi was born in Athens in 1962. Her first contact with art came from her father, the painter Yannis Stefanidis. She later studied drawing, painting, and fresco at the Athens School of Fine Arts, and taught painting and engraving to groups of primary school pupils for five years.
As well as illustrating more than 20 books for children and adults, she has exhibited her paintings, drawings and engravings widely in one-person and collective exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
Her work has won the Greek Children’s Book Circle award, first prize at the Biennale of the Arab World, an illustration award at the Bratislava Biennale, first prize at the Balkan Ex-Libris Triennale in Belgrade and inclusion on the IBBY board of honour.
