Christoforos Liontakis was born in 1945 in Herakleion, Crete. He studied law in Athens and Paris. His first collection of poems, The End of the Landscape, came out in 1973. His 1999 collection, With the Light, won the State Poetry prize and the Diavazo prize. His poems have been translated into several languages and some of them set to music by Thanos Mikroutsikos. He was proclaimed Chevalier des arts et des lettres by the French government and was awarded the Nikos Kazantzakis Prize by the Municipality of Herakleion.
