Maro Loizou
Katerina and the Invisible One, Issue No 45

Maro Loizou (1940-2007) was born in Athens. At the age of 20 she helped create an artists’ movement aimed at bringing about social change through cultural activism. Poems from three collections she wrote at that time were set to music and recited at public events. In 1966, she became involved in children’s literature, making radio and television programmes, translating children’s books and contributing to magazines. Her book, It Was and It Wasn’t, came out in 1974, the first of 35 books she wrote for children of different ages. Her work won numerous awards, including the 1995 Greek State Award for Children’s Literature.
