Yannis Kondos

Yannis Kondos was born in Ioannina in 1971. He studied physical education at Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, and photographic and audiovisual art at Athens Technical College. He did an MA in journalism at the University of Westminster. A freelance photojournalist, he has worked with the French news agencies Sygma (1998-2000) and Gamma (2001-2002), and currently works with the American agency Polaris Images.
He has travelled widely, covering hot spots around the world. Some of his recent missions have been to cover the terrorist attacks on London in July 2005, the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo, the uprising in former Yugoslavia in 2000 and the fall of Slobodan Milosevic.
Kontos has held exhibitions of his work in Greece and abroad. He has won 17 international awards, including first prize for World Press Photo in 2006.
