Yorgos Leonardos was born in 1937 in Alexandria. He published his first short stories in 1953 in the Alexandrian dailies Tachydromos and Anatoli. He studied physics but became a journalist. He worked on foreign news and later as a political correspondent for the newspapers Kathimerini, Naftemporiki, Apogevmatini, Eleftherotypia, Mesimvrini, Eleftheros Typos, Ethnos and Kerdos. He was the first correspondent of Athens News Agency in Belgrade in 1954. In 1976 he was editor of Ethnikos Kyrikas newspaper in New York. He presented television news on ERT and Antenna. As a war correspondent, he reported from Vietnam, the Iran-Iraq war and the Gulf War. In 1980 he compiled the English-Greek dictionary of scientific and military terminology and in 2000 he wrote the study The structure of the novel.
