Eleni Dikaiou was born in Nea Ionia, Volos. She began writing while still at school, sending contributions to the magazine Diaplasis ton paidon. After finishing high school she moved to Athens where she worked in public relations for some years at the national telecommunications provider, OTE. In 1991 she published her first book for children, The Girls in the Sailor Suits (Akritas; 3rd ed., Patakis, 2000), which won the Enosi Smyrnaion prize and has been translated into French.
