Dimitris Eleftherakis was born in 1978. He has published two collections of poetry, The Actual Manuscript (2001) and Temporary Transfer (2004).


IN A NARROW CAFÉ…

In a narrow café
I encounter chimaeras
the heart’s rifles
poetry’s lamp.
With suchlike daily
idolatrous habits
I take a chance
on my angel,
in the hope he’ll appear.
Though I know
that if he’s absent
a father will welcome us
with his hand open;
metaphysically gazing at the stars
he’ll say
let’s keep going
there’s still some light…
