Litsa Psarafti was born in Samos in 1936. She studied foreign languages in Athens and worked at the World Council of Churches and then the US Embassy. Among the many awards and distinctions her work has received are repeated awards from the Greek Children’s Book Circle (the local branch of IBBY), inclusion on the honor board of the Pier Paolo Vergerio European Children’s Literature Prize, the Greek State Award for Hecate’s Smile in 1996 and an Athens Academy’s commendation for The Viper’s Egg. She was the Greek candidate for the Hans Christian Anderson Award in 2000. Her books have gone into numerous editions and appear on university syllabuses in Greece and abroad.
