Nikos Leventis was born in 1947 in Piraeus, and grew up there. He spent many years in France and America before settling permanently in Athens. He has been involved in literature for 30 years, working on poetry, criticism and translations. His work, which has appeared in journals and books, includes Komidi: Collected poems 1971-1987 (pub. I Ekdoseis ton filon, 1987); Astude, a collection of verse (pub. Planodion 1994; and Pierre Jean Jouve: Poetry, introduction and translation (pub. Armos, 1997). Shady Spring is his first autobiographical prose work.
