Sarantos Kargakos was born in Gytheio in 1937 and moved to Athens during the civil war. He studied classics at Athens University. He worked for 35 years in leading Athenian private schools and tuition colleges. He has contributed to the periodicals Economikos Tachydromos, Koinonikes Tomes, Ichneftis, Ellopia, Ardin, Efthini and 4 Trochoi. From 1997 to 2001 he was a columnist and critic for the newspaper Eleftheros Typos and Typos tis Kyriakis. He has written 56 books, including studies of language, history and globalization.
