Dimitris Kalokyris was born in 1948 in Rethymnon. He studied Modern Greek at Thessaloniki, where he founded the journal Tram and an art and literature publishing house of the same name (1971-87). In Athens he founded the literary and art journal Hartis (1982-87). He was chief editor and artistic editor of To Tetarto cultural journal (1985-87). He has had three exhibitions of collages and has illustrated books for children. In 1997 he won the State Short Story Award for his work The Homeric Discovery.
