Fed up with his demanding course at the Athens School of Fine Arts, Anastasis has lost all desire to paint. In the hope of galvanizing his creativity, he joins an amateur theatre group at college, but is reluctant to join them on a tour to Alexandria until Eleni, a trainee teacher whose company he enjoys, persuades him to go. The trip proves to be a journey of a deeper kind when Anastasis begins to explore his origins. His grandparents lived in Alexandria in the days when that city had a flourishing Greek community, and the young hero has always loved the poetry of Cavafy. Now he begins to learn about the city, and his own background, at a deeper level. Revelations about the past and his family help the young hero to reconnect with his sources of inspiration. For readers of 12 and over.
