Nikos Kasdaglis speaks in a personal tone, describing places he visits and conversations with the friends who travel with him, while offering ample information both on the means of transport and the people he encounters. In the 1980s, his travels took him abroad, to Rome, Bangkok, Taiwan, Tokyo and Kyoto; and around Greece, to Rhodes, Marmara, Meteroa, Patmos and Mount Athos. He visited sites: archaeological and contemporary sites, taking a deep interest in manners customs and religious beliefs. Kasdaglis offers lively descriptions of monuments, the layout of towns, and their natural surroundings. His brief, pithy texts convey the image of an entire geographical or cultural entity. Even without the benefit of a plot or of any fictional elements, the author deploys his narrative skill to such effect that he keeps the reader hanging on his words.
