The offspring of a family of lawyers, whose father has a bad reputation in the business world, the hero struggles to ensure the continued survival of his own indolent existence. Despite gruelling experiences and an inglorious fate, the leading character manages to live completely in accordance with the Epicurean model as a sworn devotee of pleasure in all forms, a mind that seeks harmony with the world’s deeper meaning. He does everything within his power to liberate himself from oppressive conventions. Recording his story on a computer so as to learn how to touch type, he also reveals the corruption of business and the erosion of the university system in Greece. The campus novel, mystery fiction, travel narrative, gastronomic literature and the socio-politico novel all leave their traces in this black comedy about academic values, offering a grotesque illustration both of the fictional characters and the reality that surrounds them.
