Letters for Tesserae
 Thanassis Hatzopoulos

96pp.
Metaichmio, 2006
ISBN: 960-455-095-0
ISBN13: 978-960-455-095-1

Each new poetry collection by Thanassis Hatzopoulos, one of the foremost poets of his generation, constitutes an event in Greek letters. Though still in his forties, Hatzopoulos has a prodigious and enviable corpus of work to his credit. Twelve collections of poetry, two books of poetics, a children’s book, several anthologies of works by major Greek poets and over ten books of translations all in the last twenty years testify to a literary voice of remarkable breadth and strength.
Letters for Tesserae is a veritable mosaic consisting of poems written between 1986 and 1991, during the poet’s early period, and the majority of which are previously unpublished. The appearance in the world and presence within it, the relationship with the past and with death are just some of the thematic axes around which these poems rotate as Hatzopoulos returns to his poetic roots after twenty years of constant literary output.
