Aegean Wings
 Michael Domocos

Text and photographs by Michael Domocos
120pp.
Kasseris Publications, 2005
ISBN: 960-87007-6-0

The Aegean, with its abundance of rocky islets, is the home, nesting place and way station for more than 300 species of birds, many of which call in there from long, arduous migrations to rest and refuel. Mihalis Domocos photographed 56 of them in colour for Aegean Wings. It took him four years and endless patience to get the 130 shots in this compact volume. Determined to record the birds in characteristic moments of flight, he found the best way to get close, especially to seafaring birds, was by boat. He has been rewarded with exceptional pictures. There are Eleonora’s falcons enjoying a group bath, multicoloured bee-eaters swooping on their prey – even flying backwards to catch a juicy insect, a hoopoe spreading its dramatic plumage, flamingos mating, and a Black-eared wheatear seeing off a rival. A useful index gives the English, scientific, German and Greek names of the birds pictured.
