Imaginary Museum
 Christos Chrisopoulos

272pp.
Kastaniotis, 2005
ISBN: 960-03-4070-6

Christos Chrisopoulos is involved in an ongoing game with the past and present of literary texts in Imaginary Museum.
The museum he has created houses and displays a single exhibit – a writer who assumes the roles of dozens of other writers and who inhabits different worlds at different times.
The author draws up a menu with a rich variety of dishes that run the gamut of authors from Greek post-war surrealists and realists to Herman Hesse, Georges Perec, Fernando Pesoa and Maria Tsvetayeva.
Despite his penchant for literary experimentation, Chrisopoulos never becomes excessively cerebral. The book maintains a dialogue with texts written by other writers and with methods of composition and writing that deliberately emphasize their fictional status.
The subtle, shifting situations portrayed are subject to a number of conflicting interpretations. The action is illuminated obliquely by sources that constantly pique the curiosity and appeal to the sensibilities of the reader.
