When Dorothy, a popular caterpillar, disappears and the forest animals fear she has been kidnapped, super sleuth Cornelius Crick steps in to investigate. More hindered than helped by his quarrelsome, fearful assistant, Martha the firefly, Cornelius pursues a growing list of suspects. Among the colourful array of characters he interrogates are Malefica, the ill-tempered bat, Arturo Agitato, aggressive security guard to the rats’ nest, James Crook the gambling frog and Veronica Gargle, the water-polo playing trout, whom the detective interviews underwater by means of a straw. In classic whodunit fashion, Cornelius subjects them to a dramatic confrontation in which the guilty incriminate themselves. As in life, everyone has something to conceal, and unravelling the mystery helps restore balance to life in this close-knit community.
The Disappearance of Dorothy Snot will appeal to its target audience of 8 and over with engaging characters, humour and a surprise ending, well matched with playful illustrations.
