Detective Melina
 Ioanna Babeta
Illustrator: Natalia Kapatsoulia

50pp.
Metaichmio, 2009
ISBN13: 978-960-455-570-3

All her schoolmates want to be teachers, actors or singers, but Melina dreams of becoming a detective when she grows up. At first her mother approves, assigning her to find the beach umbrella, and the neighbours are amused when Melina hands out home-made business cards. But her determination to investigate the appearance of a mysterious man in the abandoned house next door rings her parents’ alarm bells. They instantly assume he’s up to no good. Their daughter can’t understand why they want her to avoid the gentle old chap who spends his time reading old newspapers and whose only food is what he can scavenge from rubbish bins. Besides, she enjoys his company. But to them he’s a stranger. When they take steps to have him removed, it only strengthens her resolve to follow her chosen profession, find more homeless people and see if she can help them.
