The Monkey Sees things One Way, the Owl Another
 Sofia Mantouvalou
Illustrator: Eleni Tsampra

28pp.
Patakis, 2008
ISBN: 978-960-1-6257-75

Sofia Mantouvalou’s new picture book, The Monkey Sees things One Way, the Owl Another, gently encourages children to think about why people might see colours differently.
Kraxi is a young jay that loves to chatter, as jays do. One morning she makes such a racket that she wakes up the owl, and they soon start arguing. When Kraxi and the butterfly admire a red hat, the dog and owl insist that it’s grey, while the frog can’t even see the hat. They ask Rosie the monkey to settle the dispute and she paints a bunch of bananas, but nobody can agree on the colour. It turns out that some of the animals can’t even see colours but only black and white.
Humorous pictures by Eleni Tsampra illustrate this little story about some characters who learn that nobody sees things quite the same way, because everybody has different eyes.
