This life story, the literary adventure of its author, abounds in dramatic situations from which there is no escape. Family conflict, lovers, friends with dark personalities, suicides and murderous outbursts flood the stage with events, revealing a female character who has been irretrievably damaged by her environment. There is no hint of melodrama or sentimentality; rather the delirious and fragmented world of My Name Is Word draws in the reader through speechless intensity and silent despair.
The appearance of shadowy characters and dimly lit and fleeting places undermines any sense of realism in a genre-breaking fictional narrative that sometimes seems like a literary essay, and sometimes like a literary essay that develops into an unfinished novel. This autobiography constantly arouses the reader’s suspicions about the true intentions of its assertions, which might be an ongoing game with the ruses of writing.
