A 55-year-old journalist collapses in front of his young wife, and suddenly abandons his comfortable home and career. His astonished spouse determines to find him at any cost. The ghostly presence of her mother becomes directly involved in the story, who communicates through spiritualism with her granddaughter.
At the centre of the action is a manuscript belonging to the grandmother, an unpublished novel that plays a decisive part in the outcome of the story.
Three strongly drawn female characters emerge from this novel about the passions that rock a family to its core, a disturbing rift and dark portents in a world of prosperity, pleasure and security.
Focusing on the complex relationship between mother and daughter, the author creates an exciting mix of realistic narrative and the supernatural, where reality becomes intertwined with [the illogical and] the irrational, and elements of a thriller are incorporated organically into the plot.
