Happy To Have Made the Journey of Odysseus tells of a real-life journey beyond the Bosphorus into the world of the Black Sea, a journey to the Danube, Azofiki, Novorosisk, Costanza and Istanbul.
Marianna Koromila combines biography with history and geography in a travel story based on the life of Yiankos Daniilopoulos. Born in 1899 in a Thracian village under the Ottoman Empire, Daniilopoulos embarked on his adventures in 1914, after the Balkan Wars when, still a schoolboy, he went to Romania to work.
While sustaining its rhythm and tempo, the narrative also depicts social institutions, economic activity and everyday life, as well as the hopes and fears of the inhabitants of a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural region. The author makes the reader feel like an eyewitness of historic events that took place during a critical phase of the 20th century.
