When a Greek-Australian painter returns to Greece to explore his past and find his way out of an artistic crisis, he gets entangled in a totally unexpected adventure. The Journey of Jason Remvis brings into play elements of the strange and irrational, though without taking the action beyond the bounds of logic or undermining the realistic setting.
The places and people that surround the hero in the first hours after his arrival in Athens gradually change into images of and vehicles for a massive dream-fantasy that conceals everything behind an illusory cloak.
A traumatic family romance with a strong dose of irony, this novel story hints at both Ibsen and Shakespeare. Christos Asteriou structures the plot and depicts the psychology of the characters with care and economy, leading to an outcome that leaves everything in abeyance, and plays with the genre denoted in the subtitle “a true story”.
