From the Quarry to the Parthenon
 Manolis Korres

67pp.
Melissa, 2000
ISBN: 960-204-227-3
ISBN13: 978-960-204-227-4

We don’t know how the Parthenon was built on the Acropolis. That is, we don’t know exactly how the Pentelic marble was hauled, treated and then carved into those superb columns and pediments that became the temple of Athena. Manolis Korres’s book From the Quarry to the Parthenon describes how Greeks solved similar problems in the fifth century BC. A vivid text with exemplary illustrations follows the compelling history of a 12-tonne column capital from its extraction from the quarry on Mount Penteli to its arrival at the rock of the Acropolis.
