Archaeologists do not agree on precisely what the Parthenon frieze represents. Many theories have been formulated but the enigma persists. In his study, The Parthenon Frieze, Angelos Delivorrias first subjects those theories to careful scrutiny, then suggests a radical explanation that concerns the connection between the City State and democracy. He presents his views with firm conviction and a boldness that is supported by ample evidence. The volume is illustrated with exceptional photographs of every part of the frieze, taken by Sokratis Mavrommatis during UNESCO’s conservation work on the Parthenon. This volume is a rare treat for aficionados of ancient Greek art.
