Want to keep your weight down by eating? Popular chef Yiannis Geldis claims you can in his latest book, where he argues the benefits of a balanced diet accompanied by physical and mental exercise, peace of mind and sound sleep. The recipes are fun, with unlikely combinations to tempt the appetite, and a handy guide to the protein, fat, carbohydrate and calorie content, as well as the preparation time. Geldis favours hearty breakfasts and his suggestions for the most important meal of the day include yoghurt with tahini and apple, and cream cheese with strawberries, pine nuts and honey. There are power drinks: celeriac with green red and yellow pepper; seafood dishes: octopus with wild greens and fricasseed aubergines; and pasta: linguini in cuttlefish ink with fish-roe. Then there are what he lists as ‘forbidden desires’ – wicked-looking sweets like panna cotta with chocolate sauce, presumably to be enjoyed in moderation.
