Alexandros Isaris was born in Serres in 1941 and studied architecture in Graz and Thessaloniki. He has published essays, prose and verse as well translations in literary periodicals. His series on Greek poetry was shown on the Third Programme of Greek state television in 1982. For eight years he was editor of the Greek edition of Ausblicke. His first collection of verse, Friends of the Sea – The Balancer, won the 1977 Maria Ralli Prize and his translation of Thomas Bernhard’s Concrete won the 1997 State Translation prize.
