Moon Soup started life as a puppet show and has retained all the humour and verve of the original. Lopodit, a greedy, incompetent wizard, Bamias, his hapless butler who treats the moon to tuneless serenades, and Matina and Mitiko, sweet creatures who hide in a well because people mock their unusual appearance, are the heroes of this tale. When the wizard overhears the well-dwellers fantasize about exchanging all their treasures for good looks, he concocts a beauty potion for them, in the hope of gaining wealth and the admiration of his scornful colleagues. But Bamias’s intervention to save his beloved moon from inclusion in the wizard’s potion, Lopodit’s slapdash spell-making skills, and the fact that the treasures turn out to be his own discarded garbage, all lead to a comedy of errors with a gentle message about friendship and acceptance.
