Director of the 1st Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities

Alkestis Choremi-Spetsieri has a PhD from the Philosophy School of the University of Athens. She has worked in in the Greek Archaeological Service for 32 years, at the Ephorates of Ancient Olympia, Euboea and Kerkyra (Corfu). Since 1983 she has been at the 1st Ephorate, of the Acropolis in Athens, of which she became director in May 2000. She conducts excavations and researches topography.
She is a member of the Archaeological Society of Athens, the German Archaeological Institute of Berlin and the Lexicon Iconographical Mythologiae Classicae (LIMC). She has conducted many excavation, participated in numerous scientific congresses and has lectured widely in Greece and abroad. She has published articles in Greek and foreign scientific periodicals and lexicons.
