Manos Kontoleon was born in Athens in 1946. He studied physics at Athens University but has been involved in children’s literature for many years. He made his literary debut in 1969 with a contribution to an anthology by young writers, and his first book came out ten years later. He writes novels, novellas, short stories, fairytales and essays, and regularly contributes reviews, articles and fiction to newspapers and magazines. His fiction and essays have appeared in various anthologies. He also writes screenplays for children’s television programmes related to books and gives talks on issues concerning children’s literature. His work has won awards from the Society of Greek Writers and the Greek branch of IBBY.
