Marlena Politopoulou was born in Athens in 1950. After studying political science at Athens University, she worked as a journalist on newspapers and radio for some twenty years. She has taught in the communications and media departments of Panteios University and Athens University and since 2001 has been in charge of publications for the Hellenic Festival. She has been writing fiction since 1985 and also translates from German.
