Prodromos Markoglou was born in Kavala in 1935 to refugee parents from Cappadocia and the Pontus. In 1941 he was struck by a German hand grenade and lost his left arm.
He studied at the Athens School of Economics and Business and worked for private companies. He made his literary debut in Kavala in 1962 with Incarcerated, a collection of poems. Since 1971 he has lived in Thessaloniki.
Markoglou has published his work in newspapers, magazines and anthologies, and some of it has been translated into English, French, German Russian, Italian, Polish and Romanian.
He is a member of the Thessaloniki Society of Authors and a founding member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society.
He won the State Short Story Award in 1998 for his book Remnants and in 2004 he won the Athens Academy Petro Hari Short Story Award for his book Fatality Avoided
