Alexis Stamatis was born in Athens. He studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and did postgraduate degrees in architecture and cinema in London. American Fugue is his sixth novel. He is adapting his novel Bar Flaubert (published by Kedros in 2000) as a screenplay in collaboration with director Vassilis Douvlis for a Greek Film Centre program. Stamatis has published six collections of poems. His second, Architecture of Interior Space, won the Athens Municipality’s Nikiforos Vrettakos Memorial Prize for Poetry.
