Eleni Giannakaki was born in 1955 in Rethymnon, Crete. She studied at Athens University and King’s College London, where she did her doctorate on Greek modernism. She has published articles and studies in Greek and English on 20th century Greek fiction. She lives in Britain and teaches Modern Greek literature at Oxford University. In 2002 she won Diavazo literary journal's award for a newly published writer for her book On Appetite and Other Horrors.
