Pursued by circles, cubes and polygons, the young hero of Panic in Geometry Land is hurled into a cell, where isosceles triangles tickle him without mercy. Then his trial begins. Why did he ignore the quadrants in his geometry book and inscribe hearts in the margin instead? Why did he draw teeth on a circle to make it look like a dragon’s mouth? It’s only a nightmare, but it will strike a familiar note with anyone daunted by the mysteries of algebra, geometry and arithmetic. Eugene Trivizas’s humorous take on a common problem is illustrated by Vassilis Papatsarouchas, whose animated geometrical shapes emerge from quirky angles to torment the hero in his sleep. If they wish, young readers can deduce the page numbers – not supplied – by simple addition or subtraction, and use an interactive section at the end that eases them gently into geometry, but both are optional
