Tolis Nikiforou tackles the growing problem of rape in this crime novel. A cultivated, well-known lawyer from Thessaloniki regularly undertakes rape and abuse cases, always treating them with the necessary professional detachment. But when the next victim is his own daughter, and her assailant is subsequently released from prison, suddenly everything changes in his life.
The question that runs throughout this book is whether taking the law into your own hands can be justified in certain very specific circumstances and cases.
The characters of both perpetrators and victims are well drawn, and an open-ended conclusion allows readers to furnish their own version of the outcome and interpret its significance.
